Langebaan Beaches

Langebaan Beach Accommodation

Here's a list of suggested Waterfront / Beach Accommodation in Langebaan.

Langebaan beaches range from small coves to long ribbons of beach. Each Langebaab beach is unique, offering something special, that differs from all the others.

Langebaan Main Beach

Langebaan Main Beach Langebaan Main Beach is a long, wide, white strip of sand, and is where all the watersport hire happens. It is in the middle of Langebaan and is accessible by car. It takes about 10 mins to walk the length of Langebaan Main Beach. The main road leading to Langebaan Main Beach has all the shops and restaurants. This is the centre of all Langebaan activities.

Sandy Bay (Sand Baai), Langebaan

Sand Baai Langebaan Sandy Bay or Sand Baai, is about 500m south of the main beach, and is where the Langebaan Yacht Club is based. Sand Baai is a small rocky cove and is home to a lot of moored yachts and motorboats. Occasionally when the water is warm, it's nice to swim here, but watch out for the extremely strong current in the channel just beyond the bay.

Shark Bay, Langebaan

Ooserwal or Shark Bay Langebaan Shark Bay is popular with kitesurfers and is about 300 m south of the Langebaan Yacht Club. It is a long deserted ribbon of beach in the West Coast Park. Shark Bay is only easily accessible by boat as there is no road access. So usually it is devoid of people and you can pretend you are on your own private beach.

Paddling or sailing to Shark Bay makes a nice day trip, as you can picnic and swim. The water can be a lot warmer than elsewhere, as the lagoon is shallow at Shark Bay. It is named Shark Bay after all the harmless sand sharks that bask on the sandy sea bottom.

Kraal Bay, Langebaan

Kraal Bay Langebaan Kraal Bay is on the other side of Langebaan Lagooon. Often incorrectly called Churchhaven (which is actually nearby but not the same place), Kraal Bay is home to many houseboats.

Why don't you Rent a Houseboat for a weekend. It is a lot of fun.

Kraal Bay is accessible by car and by boat from Langebaan. It takes about 35 minutes to drive around Langebaan Lagoon through the West Coast National Park to get to Kraal Bay. Much more fun is canoeing or sailing across the lagoon.

The water is the warmest here at Langebaan and it's really enjoyable to have a swim here and spend the day on Kraal Bay beach.
